Bargains found at property-tax sale could come at a price
Tuesday, 14 February 2012 00:13

Although it may be possible to find a deal at the annual San Diego public auction, would-be home buyers should be aware of hidden downfalls and do their research prior to bidding.

In an effort to collect more than $3.4 million in delinquent property taxes, the treasurer-tax collector office will be auctioning off over 200 properties on Feb. 24. Experts warn, however, that beyond the price of the opening bids which include back taxes, penalty late fees and sales costs, bidders should know there could be additional hidden fees and issues associated with the properties.

“Homes that end up at auction can carry some large drawbacks,” says Ruth Ann Fisher, broker for Del Realty. “Since the owner was having financial issues, the home may not have been maintained and there could be additional liens against the property.”

Coronado named one of America’s prettiest neighborhoods
Wednesday, 18 January 2012 22:37

In a recent Forbes magazine article, San Diego’s Crown City, Coronado, was chosen as one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in the United States. Characterized as “one of the West Coast’s most prized beach communities,” the article highlights what Coronado residents and visitors alike have been saying for years.

“Living in Coronado truly is like living in Mayberry,” says Ruth Ann Fisher, broker for Del Realty and president of the Coronado Chamber of Commerce. “It’s a community unlike any other where the preferred mode of transportation is your beach cruiser and you’re greeted by friendly faces everywhere you go.”

Many describe the experience of visiting Coronado like taking a step back to a simpler era when life wasn’t so fast paced and people took the time to know your name. It’s this personalization that makes the city so unique and a pleasure to visit, and if you’re lucky enough, call home.

Adding to the community’s small-town feel are the businesses – most of which are locally owned and operated. In other towns, you’d be hard-pressed to find an office supply store that includes homemade cookies with each order, but in Coronado, cookies come with the territory. Much like baked goods, hugs are freely given out as well. It’s commonplace to be personally welcomed by the restaurant owner and bid farewell with a genuine squeeze and a “We look forward to seeing you again soon.”

“To really understand Coronado’s charm, you have to experience it for yourself,” says Fisher. “As a community, we love welcoming visitors and hope in the coming year that many more will get to enjoy all that our town has to offer.”

So if you happen to be in San Diego, be sure to take the time to visit the Crown City. It’s only a few minutes from downtown and the ride over the bridge alone, is well worth the trip.
